WEC48: Aldo Vs Faber Results. WEC’s First PPV or was it?
WEC 48: Aldo vs Faber flashed across Pay Per View sets all over the country on April 24, 2010 for the first time. It showcased the power and the action that is World Extreme Cagefighting to the hard core UFC fans. It’s success proves that the little guys will provide us with entertainment that is worth paying for. Unfortunately for us cheapskates, they may have done their jobs too well. I think seeing the action in these fights will bring up the paydays for these hard working “everymen.” I like these bouts because they feature the Regular Joe type frames that are walking our streets. You could see yourself stepping into one of these fights and doing battle. Of course, you and I would get owned by these guys but it isn’t altogether inconceivable… I’m glad that Manny Gamburyan did well. I’ve always thought that he was robbed of much MMA love ever since he lost to Nate Diaz in The Ultimate Fighter 5. Maybe now the MMA gods will take notice and give him a shot in the big leagues.
Uriah Faber didn’t do too well this bout. Is it because he’s pushing 30 and at this size that really means that he’s losing a step to the youngsters? It could be. Aldo had him in check with his sound kicking technique. Faber is by no means washed up yet but if he lands on his face a few more times a la Jens Pulver, it may be time to go into surfing or coaching. Heavyweights can last well into their 40s because it usually takes brute strength to win their battles while lightweights rely on their blistering speed and flexibility. You don’t have that in your 30′s and beyond like the 20 year old punks.
So, Yay! and Boo! to a successful WEC or whatever this was 48 because we may not see as many freebie main events in the future or even a WEC. It’s possible that Dana White and Zuffa will reabsorb the little freaks back into UFC. We’ll see. For now, here are your results:

UFC112: Invincible. Invincible??! More like Inconceivable!
UFC112:Invincible was pegged as an All Star, A#1 event. Looking at the fight card, it sure had the makings of some legendary bouts. How could you miss with Anderson Silva, BJ Penn, Matt Hughes, the UFC debut of Renzo Gracie? Even Kendall Grove and Mark Munoz promised to give us some great great fights. In fact, the Grove/Munoz contest *was* the fight of the night. All the big names gave us some pretty bogus fights. Hughes and Renzo circled each other for what seemed the entire fight. BJ just was unprepared to fight Edgar and his defeat proved it. Silva and Maia have scored the weirdest fight in UFC history outside of the Kalib Starnes/Nate Quarry fight. Maia had no business stepping into the Octogon with Silva but Silva just didn’t respect the game of MMA enough to finish the fight right. Dana White was clearly ticked off about this fight. It will be interesting to see what, if anything, happens to Anderson after this. He is still top of the heap in the UFC but that can change in a instant if Dana decides that being a “jackass” is a deal breaker. Suffice to say, “Invincible” was anything but…
Here’s your Invincible Results:

Ultimate Fight Night 21: Florian vs Gomi Results
This was a pretty packed card for a freebie. I could argue that it was an even better card than the last few Pay Per View UFC fights what with Kenny Florian, Gomi, Roy Nelson, Nate Quarry and Gleison Tibau. I gotta say, Roy “Big Country” Nelson is another of those fighters that I have to eat crow about. Nate Diaz is one that I’ve really really come to respect after talking a bunch of trash about him. Nelson just does NOT look like the kind of guy that can lay you out but he’s proven it in match after match that he belongs in the Octagon, big stomach and all. Guess we’ll be seeing a LOT more of this guy. I think a Kimbo rematch is in order. Oh yeah. Remember THAT guy??!? He *is* still under contract if I’m not mistaken. Let me know if I am… Here are your BIG results.

UFC 111: GSP vs Hardy Results
If you have an Xbox360, you too can see GSP and Hardy up close and personal…
It took them long enough, five rounds to be exact, to decide that GSP is indeed still one heck of an MMA’r. UFC 111 came to us on March 27th, 2010 with a much better card than the last few. GSP, Frank Mir, Shane Carwin and even Nate Diaz helped to make this event pretty good to watch for free and otherwise. I would keep an eye out for Nate. This kid is becoming a monster in the UFC and if people don’t watch out, he’s going to make everyone look stupid. He definitely made me look stupid after all the hemming and hawing I’ve done proclaiming him a fake TUF champion.
Here are your results. Don’t blink, because we have another UFC event in two days: UFC Fight Night 21. Then we’ve got UFC 112 on April 10th. Spring is definitely getting busy for mixed martial artists. They better be as ready as we are!

UFC on Versus: Vera vs Jones Results
BONES wins! I like that Jon “Bones” Jones got the win on Sunday, March 21, 2010. A win over an opponent like Brandon Vera is impressive. Bones needed that after having his decisive thrashing of Matt Hammil nixed by his illegal down elbow strike. Dana White has a great new product now but I’m afraid of what he might do to him if I hear him right. He said Bones isn’t ready for a title belt until he beats guys like Rashaad, Rampage, Rua and Machida. Hmmm, me thinks Dana is trying to protect his aging stock of used up fighters/friends. There’s new meat to cook in the UFC. Give Bones a shot! I hope Vera makes it through this ok. His face was broken by Bones in a few places. Vera is a tough tough customer and I think we’ll be seeing more Jones/Vera action for many years to come!

WEC 47: Bowles vs Cruz Results
That might leave a little mark… Miguel Torres isn’t looking like himself these days and may never again! I guess it’s kind of a “red badge of courage” thing for fighters to get nasty cuts. Guys with pretty faces just don’t make it in the pro ranks. I guess that’s why I never got to the big show… Anyway, WEC 47 delivered it’s usual high quality fights from the little guys. I think Torres will bounce back but he needs to get a grip on whatever is making him lose. I think the rest of the competition has figured him out. Jens needs to go ahead and retire from fighting already. He is an AWESOME coach and I think his stable of fighters will dominate for years to come. His stint on the Ultimate Fighter proved as much. Still, if Little Evil gets it together and puts some more wins on his record at WEC, it wouldn’t be unwelcome. Go Jens GO! Here are your results:

UFC 109: Relentless Results
UFC 109 Relentless came at us on February 6, 2010 and lived up to it’s name: Relentlessly boring. OK, maybe not all of it was boring. Seeing Randy Couture vs. Mark Coleman was a good trip back to the olden times. The Sonnen vs. Marquardt fight was definitely the fight of the night. I guess you can’t have a really big fight card every time but it seems like these guys have been pulled out from the very back of the closet. Let’s see some newer shinier “toys” mix it up next time. I’m sure it will make shelling out the $50 for PPV easier.
