I guess you just have to let’em fight sometimes. It’s been a few days since I watched this event transpire on July 3, 2010 in my local pub. I saw Lesnar getting his ass handed to him at the end of the first round for about 45 seconds to a minute and a half I think. I don’t know. Sometimes the fix is in and the refs stand back and watch as the current UFC posterboy gets pummeled in the hopes that he somehow wakes up and beats the bell or the other guy. They did this with Kimbo Slice/Roy Nelson fight on the Heavyweight Ultimate Fighter. Big Country had Kimbo smothered but the ref just sat there and watched for what seemed ***forever*** before finally calling the thing in favor of Roy. Looked like an obvious try at rescuing a potential ratings bonanza in Kimbo Slice but, Kimbo sucked and Nelson won. Same thing here but quite different results. Lesnar was on his back just getting the smack layed down on him and doing nothing. I would have called it and most other refs, in fact, this ref would have called any other fight that ended like this and Carwin would be the winner. This time, lucky for Dana and the UFC, Lesnar was able to shake off the beatdown and choke out Carwin in the second round. Oh well, it still was a kick ass event. The Leben/Akiyama fight was bAAAAD aaaish. Even the Krzysztof/Bonnar had its entertaining points as well. Leben is just plain scary. That will teach *ANYONE* not to underestimate him again. He didn’t even need any time to recover from his last fight. So much for hanging out on the couch for a year between UFC events. Leben won’t have any part of that.

Another TUF was crowned on Saturday, June 19, 2010. It was Court McGee lifting up the worthless glass trophy this time. Actually, just the trophy is worthless. The six figure UFC contract ain’t too shabby of a prize. The other The Ultimate Fighter 11 freaks put on a good display. The Yager/Attonito fight was kind of disappointing. I kind of wanted to see Yager go against Hammortree to settle all the crap that happened in the house but whatever. Yager’s fight ended with another loss. I don’t know what happened to this guy. Out of all the loudmouths in the house, he looked like he could go the furthest. Maybe he should loose the fro and get serious about fight training? The Hamill/Jardine fight ended in a bloody mess. I couldn’t believe what happened to each fighter’s eyes. At one point, Jardine poked Matt’s eye then after a long clinch and a few strikes, Jardine looked like he needed to get the RED out. Jardine’s days as the “Mean” one are very numbered. I think this is loss four in a row. He’d probably make a good spokesperson for Scared Straight or something. The Octagon hasn’t been to friendly of late. Here’s the results of this (I kid you not, I couldn’t stay awake both times I attempted to watch these fights. Maybe it was the lack of Joe Rogan yelling out “oumaplata!” every other move!) snooze-fest:

No Wanna See You Undercard Fights:

* Middleweight bout: James Hammortree vs. Chris Camozzi
Camozzi fooled the judges and beat up Hammortree via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27)

* Middleweight bout: Kyle Noke vs. Josh Bryant
Noke put the hurt on Bryant via TKO (strikes) at 3:12 of round 2.

* Middleweight bout: Brad Tavares vs. Seth Baczynski
Tavares fooled the judges and beat up Baczynski via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).

* Lightweight bout: John Gunderson vs. Mark Holst
Gunderson fooled the judges and beat up Holst via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

Main Drunk on the Couch or Pub Spike TV Fights:

* Middleweight bout: Jamie Yager vs. Rich Attonito
Attonito put the hurt on Yager via TKO (strikes) at 4:25 of round 2.

* Lightweight bout: Spencer Fisher vs. Dennis Siver
Siver fooled the judges and beat up Fisher via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28).

* Middleweight bout: Chris Leben vs. Aaron Simpson
Leben put the hurt on Simpson via TKO (punches) at 4:17 of round 2.

* Light Heavyweight bout: Matt Hamill vs. Keith Jardine
Hamill fooled the judges and beat up Jardine via majority decision (29-27, 29-27, 28-28). Jardine had one point deducted for a pokey in the eyehole. OUCH!

* Middleweight bout: Court McGee vs. Kris McCray
McGee choked the fight out of McCray via submission (rear naked choke) at 3:41 of round 2 to become The Ultimate Fighter.

* Heavyweight bout: James McSweeney vs. Travis Browne
Browne put the hurt on McSweeney via TKO (punches) at 4:32 of round 1.

UFC 115: Liddell vs. Franklin knocked us down out of our stand up game on June 12, 2010. This was another in a star studded UFC main events. However, the main event wasn’t the one we were hoping for as Tito Ortiz ducked out of this one to get his neck hammered by a doctor. This has become standard for us The Ultimate Fighter fans as far as the coach vs coach battles go. I fear that by the time Ortiz vs. Liddell happens, they will both be in wheelchairs fighting with an Xbox or Wii controller! Chuck took a hard one on the chin from Franklin and possibly ended his UFC comeback career although I think Dana White may give him one last shot at the “Doorknob” Ortiz. I really thought that Chuck would do much better than a 1st round knockout loss but that’s how this crazy fight game works. It makes you wonder if Ortiz could have pulled out a win on this one…

Other stand up guys and honest to goodness favorites fell hard in this event as well: Big Mac Danzig, Tyson Griffin, Paulo Thiago, and Pat Barry(who I thought was going to lay waste to Mirko) bit the dust. Good to see Carlos Condit getting a win in the UFC and squashing some of those stupid “WEC fighters can’t compete with the UFC guys” comments I always see in the MMA blogosphere. Keep on keepin’ on Carlos! We shall see if Ortiz can score another win from “the grave” when the TUF 11 Finale happens this Saturday, June 19th!

Here are your results…
No Wanna See You (Not Even For FREE!) Card:

* Welterweight bout: James Wilks vs. Peter Sobotta
Wilks fooled the judges and beat up Sobotta via unanimous decision (30–27, 30–28, 30–27).

* Middleweight bout: David Loiseau vs. Mario Miranda
Miranda put the hurt on Loiseau via TKO (punches) at 4:07 of round 2.

Spike TV Too Cheap For PPV Fights:

Wiman choked the fight out of Danzig via submission (guillotine choke) at 1:45 of round 1.

Patrick choked the fight out of Funch via submission (guillotine choke) at 1:48 of round 2.

* Lightweight bout: Tyson Griffin vs. Evan Dunham

Main PPV and/or Drunk at the Pub Fights:

* Welterweight bout: Carlos Condit vs. Rory MacDonald
Condit put the hurt on MacDonald via TKO (strikes) at 4:53 of round 3.

* Heavyweight bout: Ben Rothwell vs. Gilbert Yvel
Rothwell fooled the judges and beat up Yvel via unanimous decision. (30–27, 29–28, 29–28)

* Welterweight bout: Paulo Thiago vs. Martin Kampmann
Kampmann fooled the judges and beat up Thiago via unanimous decision. (30–27, 30–27, 30–27)

* Heavyweight bout: Mirko Filipović vs. Pat Barry

UFC 114 kicked us where it counts this Memorial Day Weekend on May 29, 2010. We finally got to see BA Baracus aka Quintin Rampage Jackson take on Rashad Evans. As much as a goofball as Rampage is, I kind of wanted him to beat the daylights out of Rashad who seemed all too smug during his stint as a coach on The Ultimate Fighter. Unfortunately for BA, he might as well as been stuck up in a plane as that was as comfortable as his outing in the Octagon. We’ll see if we ever get the two of these guys to fight again. Dan Lauzon’s troubles did not stay within the family this time, even his family jewels took it on the “chin” when Efrain Escudero pounded him to a defeat. Maybe he better kiss and make up with his brothers and take his training more seriously? Amir Sadollah looks to become another in a long line of TUF show winners that consistently disappoint the more they fight. Anyway, here are the results of this actually star packed event:
No Wanna See You (Not Even For FREE!) Card:

* Middleweight bout: Jesse Forbes vs. Ryan Jensen
Jensen choked the fight out of Forbes via submission (guillotine choke) at 1:06 of round 1.

* Lightweight bout: Aaron Riley vs. Joe Brammer
Riley fooled the judges and beat up Brammer via unanimous decision (30–27, 30–27, 30–27).

Spike TV Too Cheap For PPV Fights:

* Lightweight bout: Efrain Escudero vs. Dan Lauzon
Escudero fooled the judges and beat up Lauzon via unanimous decision (29–27, 29–27, 29–27). Escudero was deducted 1 point due to repeated kicks to the gonads… OUCH!

* Light Heavyweight bout: Luiz Cane vs. Cyrille Diabaté
Diabaté put the hurt on Cane via TKO (strikes) at 2:13 of round 1.

* Welterweight bout: Amir Sadollah vs. Dong Hyun Kim
Kim fooled the judges and beat up Sadollah via unanimous decision (30–27, 30–27, 30–27).

Main PPV and/or Drunk at the Pub Fights:

* Welterweight bout: Diego Sanchez vs. John Hathaway
Hathaway fooled the judges and beat up Sanchez via unanimous decision (30–27, 30–27, 30–26).

* Light Heavyweight bout: Antônio Rogério Nogueira vs. Jason Brilz
Nogueira fooled the judges and beat up Brilz via split decision (28–29, 29–28, 29–28).

* Heavyweight bout: Todd Duffee vs. Mike Russow
Russow layed the smack down on Duffee via KO (punch) at 2:35 in round 3.

* Lightweight bout: Melvin Guillard vs. Waylon Lowe
Guillard put the hurt on Lowe via TKO (strikes) at 3:28 of round 1.

* Middleweight bout: Michael Bisping vs. Dan Miller

UFC113: Machida vs. Shogun 2 came to the great province of Quebec in the city of Montreal on May 8, 2010. Again it was a feature packed event. After a few lackluster UFC‘s this one looked to fill our bills with MMA goodness. What we came away with instead was a whooole lot of questions:

Is Lyoto Machida exposed as merely a “karate guy” that can’t hang with real MMA’rs? This is a conceit by many a fan and many a competitor that Machida had proved wrong time and time again until this bout with Shogun Rua. Rua just completely took apart Machida and left him a tub of goo on the Octagon floor.

WTF was Paul Daley thinking???!!? Seeya dude. Dana is really trying to create a better product so he can sell it to “normal” TV in the future. That’s Dana White’s ultimate goal: To gain as many fans as the NFL and grab a spot on a regular television network. That’s not going to happen if you have jackholes, punching people looong after the bell has rung. Even a complete UFC novice knows not to do that. So, for now, Daley’s out of the UFC until Dana White says he can come back on. He had such a great prize to look forward to. A title shot at GSP and a coaching gig on The Ulimate Fighter! Quite a bonehead move.

Kimbo’s in the same boat: Out of the UFC for now. Getting taken apart by “Meathead” Mitrone wasn’t what Dana had in mind for Kimbo in the UFC. Still, I don’t think one loss should have meant booting out a surefire ratings bonanza like Kimbo out of the organization. Kimbo will go back to Strikeforce and bump up the ratings again. Hopefully, with what he’s learned he’ll completely dominate and earn his spot back into the UFC. Fighters with bigger beefs against Dana have come back and will fight again, see Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz!

Here are your results:

No Wanna See You Card:

* Middleweight bout: Jason MacDonald vs. John Salter
Salter put the hurt on MacDonald via TKO (injury) at 2:42 of round 1.

WEC 48: Aldo vs Faber flashed across Pay Per View sets all over the country on April 24, 2010 for the first time. It showcased the power and the action that is World Extreme Cagefighting to the hard core UFC fans. It’s success proves that the little guys will provide us with entertainment that is worth paying for. Unfortunately for us cheapskates, they may have done their jobs too well. I think seeing the action in these fights will bring up the paydays for these hard working “everymen.” I like these bouts because they feature the Regular Joe type frames that are walking our streets. You could see yourself stepping into one of these fights and doing battle. Of course, you and I would get owned by these guys but it isn’t altogether inconceivable… I’m glad that Manny Gamburyan did well. I’ve always thought that he was robbed of much MMA love ever since he lost to Nate Diaz in The Ultimate Fighter 5. Maybe now the MMA gods will take notice and give him a shot in the big leagues.

Uriah Faber didn’t do too well this bout. Is it because he’s pushing 30 and at this size that really means that he’s losing a step to the youngsters? It could be. Aldo had him in check with his sound kicking technique. Faber is by no means washed up yet but if he lands on his face a few more times a la Jens Pulver, it may be time to go into surfing or coaching. Heavyweights can last well into their 40s because it usually takes brute strength to win their battles while lightweights rely on their blistering speed and flexibility. You don’t have that in your 30′s and beyond like the 20 year old punks.

So, Yay! and Boo! to a successful WEC or whatever this was 48 because we may not see as many freebie main events in the future or even a WEC. It’s possible that Dana White and Zuffa will reabsorb the little freaks back into UFC. We’ll see. For now, here are your results:

No Wanna See You Card:

* Bantamweight bout: Takeya Mizugaki vs. Rani Yahya
Mizugaki fooled the judges and beat up Yahya via unanimous decision (29–28, 30–27, 29–28).

UFC112:Invincible was pegged as an All Star, A#1 event. Looking at the fight card, it sure had the makings of some legendary bouts. How could you miss with Anderson Silva, BJ Penn, Matt Hughes, the UFC debut of Renzo Gracie? Even Kendall Grove and Mark Munoz promised to give us some great great fights. In fact, the Grove/Munoz contest *was* the fight of the night. All the big names gave us some pretty bogus fights. Hughes and Renzo circled each other for what seemed the entire fight. BJ just was unprepared to fight Edgar and his defeat proved it. Silva and Maia have scored the weirdest fight in UFC history outside of the Kalib Starnes/Nate Quarry fight. Maia had no business stepping into the Octogon with Silva but Silva just didn’t respect the game of MMA enough to finish the fight right. Dana White was clearly ticked off about this fight. It will be interesting to see what, if anything, happens to Anderson after this. He is still top of the heap in the UFC but that can change in a instant if Dana decides that being a “jackass” is a deal breaker. Suffice to say, “Invincible” was anything but…

Here’s your Invincible Results:

No Wanna See You Card:

* Heavyweight bout: Jon Madsen vs. Mostapha Al Turk

Madsen fooled the judges and beat up Al Turk via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).

* Lightweight bout: Paul Kelly vs. Matt Veach

Kelly choked the fight out of Veach via submission (guillotine choke) at 3:41 of round 2.

* Welterweight bout: DaMarques Johnson vs. Brad Blackburn

Johnson put the hurt on Blackburn via TKO (strikes) at 2:08 of round 3.

* Welterweight bout: Nick Osipczak vs. Rick Story

Story fooled the judges and beat up Osipczak via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28).

Main PPV and/or Drunk at the Pub Fights:

* Middleweight bout: Kendall Grove vs. Mark Muñoz

Munoz put the hurt on Grove via TKO (strikes) at 2:50 of round 2.

* Lightweight bout: Terry Etim vs. Rafael dos Anjos

dos Anjos choked the fight out of Etim via submission (armbar) at 4:30 of round 2.

* Light Heavyweight bout: Sweden Alexander Gustafsson vs. Phil Davis

Davis choked the fight out of Gustafsson via submission (anaconda choke) at 4:55 of round 1.

* Welterweight bout: Matt Hughes vs. Renzo Gracie

Hughes put the hurt on Gracie via TKO (strikes) at 4:40 of round 3.

* Lightweight Championship bout: B.J. Penn (c) vs. Frankie Edgar

Edgar fooled the judges and beat up Penn via unanimous decision (50-45, 48-47, 49-46) to become the new UFC Lightweight Champion.

* Middleweight Championship bout: Anderson Silva (c) vs. Demian Maia

Silva fooled the judges and beat up Maia via unanimous decision (50-45, 50-45, 49-46) to retain the UFC Middleweight Championship.

This was a pretty packed card for a freebie. I could argue that it was an even better card than the last few Pay Per View UFC fights what with Kenny Florian, Gomi, Roy Nelson, Nate Quarry and Gleison Tibau. I gotta say, Roy “Big Country” Nelson is another of those fighters that I have to eat crow about. Nate Diaz is one that I’ve really really come to respect after talking a bunch of trash about him. Nelson just does NOT look like the kind of guy that can lay you out but he’s proven it in match after match that he belongs in the Octagon, big stomach and all. Guess we’ll be seeing a LOT more of this guy. I think a Kimbo rematch is in order. Oh yeah. Remember THAT guy??!? He *is* still under contract if I’m not mistaken. Let me know if I am… Here are your BIG results.

No Wanna See You Undercard Fights:

* Welterweight bout: Charlie Brenneman vs. Jason High
Brenneman fooled the judges and beat up High via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28).

Harris put the hurt on Miranda via TKO (punches) at 4:49 of round 1.

* Middleweight bout: Yushin Okami vs. Lucio Linhares
Okami put the hurt on Linhares via TKO (doctor stoppage) at 2:47 of round 2.

* Lightweight bout: Rob Emerson vs. Nik Lentz
Lentz fooled the judges and beat up Emerson via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 29-28).

* Lightweight bout: Jacob Volkmann vs. Ronnys Torres
Volkmann fooled the judges and beat up Torres via split decision (28-29, 30-27, 30-27).

Main Drunk on the Couch or Pub Spike TV Fights:

* Lightweight bout: Ross Pearson vs. Dennis Siver

If you have an Xbox360, you too can see GSP and Hardy up close and personal…

It took them long enough, five rounds to be exact, to decide that GSP is indeed still one heck of an MMA’r. UFC 111 came to us on March 27th, 2010 with a much better card than the last few. GSP, Frank Mir, Shane Carwin and even Nate Diaz helped to make this event pretty good to watch for free and otherwise. I would keep an eye out for Nate. This kid is becoming a monster in the UFC and if people don’t watch out, he’s going to make everyone look stupid. He definitely made me look stupid after all the hemming and hawing I’ve done proclaiming him a fake TUF champion.

Here are your results. Don’t blink, because we have another UFC event in two days: UFC Fight Night 21. Then we’ve got UFC 112 on April 10th. Spring is definitely getting busy for mixed martial artists. They better be as ready as we are!

Almeida choked the fight out of Brown via submission (rear naked choke) at 3:30 of round 2.

* Interim Heavyweight Championship bout: Frank Mir vs. Shane Carwin

Carwin layed the smack down on Mir via KO (punches) at 3:48 of round 1 to become the UFC Interim Heavyweight champion.

* Welterweight Championship bout: Georges St. Pierre (c) vs. Dan Hardy

BONES wins! I like that Jon “Bones” Jones got the win on Sunday, March 21, 2010. A win over an opponent like Brandon Vera is impressive. Bones needed that after having his decisive thrashing of Matt Hammil nixed by his illegal down elbow strike. Dana White has a great new product now but I’m afraid of what he might do to him if I hear him right. He said Bones isn’t ready for a title belt until he beats guys like Rashaad, Rampage, Rua and Machida. Hmmm, me thinks Dana is trying to protect his aging stock of used up fighters/friends. There’s new meat to cook in the UFC. Give Bones a shot! I hope Vera makes it through this ok. His face was broken by Bones in a few places. Vera is a tough tough customer and I think we’ll be seeing more Jones/Vera action for many years to come!

Here’s the results:

Pierce fooled the judges and beat up Paulino via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

Schaub rained the pain on Gormley via TKO (punches) at 0:47 of round 1.

Elkins rained the pain on Ludwig via TKO (ankle injury) at 0:44 of round 1.
