Mixed Martial B0nes

I guess you just have to let’em fight sometimes.  It’s been a few days since I watched this event transpire on July 3, 2010 in my local pub.  I saw Lesnar getting his ass handed to him at the end of the first round for about 45 seconds to a minute and a half I think.  I don’t know.  Sometimes the fix is in and the refs stand back and watch as the current UFC posterboy gets pummeled in the hopes that he somehow wakes up and beats the bell or the other guy.  They did this with Kimbo Slice/Roy Nelson fight on the Heavyweight Ultimate Fighter.  Big Country had Kimbo smothered but the ref just sat there and watched for what seemed ***forever*** before finally calling the thing in favor of Roy.  Looked like an obvious try at rescuing a potential ratings bonanza in Kimbo Slice but, Kimbo sucked and Nelson won.  Same thing here but quite different results.  Lesnar was on his back just getting the smack layed down on him and doing nothing.  I would have called it and most other refs, in fact, this ref would have called any other fight that ended like this and Carwin would be the winner.  This time, lucky for Dana and the UFC, Lesnar was able to shake off the beatdown and choke out Carwin in the second round.  Oh well, it still was a kick ass event.  The Leben/Akiyama fight was bAAAAD aaaish.  Even the Krzysztof/Bonnar had its entertaining points as well.  Leben is just plain scary.  That will teach *ANYONE* not to underestimate him again.  He didn’t even need any time to recover from his last fight.  So much for hanging out on the couch for a year between UFC events.  Leben won’t have any part of that.

Schaub put the hurt on Tuchscherer via TKO (strikes) at 1:07 of round 1.

* Middleweight bout:  Gerald Harris vs.  Dave Branch

Harris layed the smack down on Branch via KO (slam) at 2:35 of round 3.

Main PPV and/or Drunk at the Pub Fights:

* Lightweight bout:  George Sotiropoulos vs.  Kurt Pellegrino

Sotiropoulos fooled the judges and beat up Pellegrino via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28).

* Light Heavyweight bout:  Krzysztof Soszynski vs.  Stephan Bonnar

Bonnar put the hurt on Soszynski via TKO (strikes) at 3:08 of round 2.

* Welterweight bout:  Chris Lytle vs.  Matt Brown

Lytle choked the fight out of Brown via submission (armbar) at 2:02 of round 2.

* Middleweight bout:  Yoshihiro Akiyama vs.  Chris Leben

Leben choked the fight out of Akiyama via submission (triangle choke) at 4:40 of round 3.

* Heavyweight Championship bout:  Brock Lesnar (c) vs  Shane Carwin (ic)

Lesnar choked the fight out of Carwin via submission (arm triangle choke) at 3:52 of round 2 to become the Undisputed UFC Heavyweight Champion.

* Middleweight bout:  Kendall Grove vs.  Goran Reljic

Grove fooled the judges and beat up Reljic via split decision (30-27, 28-29, 29-28).

Another TUF was crowned on Saturday, June 19, 2010.  It was Court McGee lifting up the worthless glass trophy this time.  Actually, just the trophy is worthless.  The six figure UFC contract ain’t too shabby of a prize.  The other The Ultimate Fighter 11 freaks put on a good display.  The Yager/Attonito fight was kind of disappointing.  I kind of wanted to see Yager go against Hammortree to settle all the crap that happened in the house but whatever.  Yager’s fight ended with another loss.  I don’t know what happened to this guy.  Out of all the loudmouths in the house, he looked like he could go the furthest.  Maybe he should loose the fro and get serious about fight training?  The Hamill/Jardine fight ended in a bloody mess.  I couldn’t believe what happened to each fighter’s eyes.  At one point, Jardine poked Matt’s eye then after a long clinch and a few strikes, Jardine looked like he needed to get the RED out.  Jardine’s days as the “Mean” one are very numbered.  I think this is loss four in a row.  He’d probably make a good spokesperson for Scared Straight or something.  The Octagon hasn’t been to friendly of late.  Here’s the results of this (I kid you not, I couldn’t stay awake both times I attempted to watch these fights.  Maybe it was the lack of Joe Rogan yelling out “oumaplata!” every other move!) snooze-fest:

* Middleweight bout:  Brad Tavares vs.  Seth Baczynski
Tavares fooled the judges and beat up Baczynski via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).

* Lightweight bout:  John Gunderson vs.  Mark Holst
Gunderson fooled the judges and beat up Holst via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

Main Drunk on the Couch or Pub Spike TV Fights:

Attonito put the hurt on Yager via TKO (strikes) at 4:25 of round 2.

* Lightweight bout:  Spencer Fisher vs.  Dennis Siver
Siver fooled the judges and beat up Fisher via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28).

* Middleweight bout:  Chris Leben vs.  Aaron Simpson
Leben put the hurt on Simpson via TKO (punches) at 4:17 of round 2.

* Light Heavyweight bout:  Matt Hamill vs.  Keith Jardine
Hamill fooled the judges and beat up Jardine via majority decision (29-27, 29-27, 28-28). Jardine had one point deducted for a pokey in the eyehole.  OUCH!

* Middleweight bout:  Court McGee vs.  Kris McCray
McGee choked the fight out of McCray via submission (rear naked choke) at 3:41 of round 2 to become The Ultimate Fighter.

* Heavyweight bout:  James McSweeney vs.  Travis Browne
Browne put the hurt on McSweeney via TKO (punches) at 4:32 of round 1.

Look out fight fans.  I almost forgot about Chris Leben.  He’s been stewing in jail for about 8 months after getting popped for steriods but he will be back in action for UFC102.  Here he is back in the day and before the Octagon laying down some good old fashioned BJJ moves.

Leben was one of the wilder opponents on The Ultimate Fighter.  He set the standards, such as they are, for debauchery in the TUF house by peeing on Jason Thacker’s bed.  Jake Rosholt, Chris Leben’s opponent for UFC102 should watch out.  They do nothing but work out and beat each other up in prison.  Leben should be good and ready for this one.  So will we.
