All the MMA, UFC and Martial Arts One Newbie With a Job Can Stand!

Archives for Comic Con category

Here’s more SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) action.  This time it’s a team battle.  They scale up to full on wars when they want to have some “real” fun.  But for ComicCon purposes, this is still pretty cool.

BTW, a head shot is a kill in this game, (again, I think to keep the Comic Con Freaks like me from running away in fear of losing an arm or a leg) but then you already knew that right?  If you want to try it for yourself, go off to their website by clicking HERE!

Over the last five days, I’ve done what I’ve always done at this time of the year: Got my Geek on at ComicCon International.  I usually look for any new movie or TV news.  Sometimes there’s an honest to goodness MMA or just martial arts in general tie in there.  Like, this year, Cung Le made an appearance.  I missed him though and was only able to see the bobbleheads he was hawking.  So, after all the walking, I decided to get a breath of non-nerdy-5dayold-ComicCon-BO-stank fresh air.  This is what I saw:

These are recreations of Medieval armed combat.  They go at it pretty hard for the Comic Con freaks and it looks like a lot of fun.  Just like MMA, there are referees to make sure that no funny business occurs and that proper points are awarded.  In their “real” battles and sparring matches, they can target arms and legs.  You must then fight without the use of that limb until you are declared “dead.”

Very cool…
