Archives for Chuck Liddell category

UFC 115: Liddell vs. Franklin knocked us down out of our stand up game on June 12, 2010.  This was another in a star studded UFC main events.  However, the main event wasn’t the one we were hoping for as Tito Ortiz ducked out of this one to get his neck hammered by a doctor.  This has become standard for us The Ultimate Fighter fans as far as the coach vs coach battles go.  I fear that by the time Ortiz vs. Liddell happens, they will both be in wheelchairs fighting with an Xbox or Wii controller!  Chuck took a hard one on the chin from Franklin and possibly ended his UFC comeback career although I think Dana White may give him one last shot at the “Doorknob” Ortiz.  I really thought that Chuck would do much better than a 1st round knockout loss but that’s how this crazy fight game works. It makes you wonder if Ortiz could have pulled out a win on this one…

Other stand up guys and honest to goodness favorites fell hard in this event as well:  Big Mac Danzig, Tyson Griffin, Paulo Thiago, and Pat Barry(who I thought was going to lay waste to Mirko) bit the dust.  Good to see Carlos Condit getting a win in the UFC and squashing some of those stupid “WEC fighters can’t compete with the UFC guys” comments I always see in the MMA blogosphere.  Keep on keepin’ on Carlos!  We shall see if Ortiz can score another win from “the grave” when the TUF 11 Finale happens this Saturday, June 19th!

I’m still watching The Ultimate Fighter like a dumbass because Dana White has figured out what us MMA fans like: A FREAK show that we can’t look away from.  It’s only natural that Chuck Liddell finds himself on Dancing With The Stars as this is the mother of all Freak Shows.  I can’t stomach a whole show so thank the good Lord for YouTube.  You can see Chuck improve with each dance.  I think if we all do our parts, Chuck will score a big knock out on this show!

Here’s week One.  You see Dana just busting out laughing in the front row.  You can also see Chuck scared for his life for the first time in a loooong time:

Week Two has Chuck improving his showmanship.  You can see him actually play at being more comfortable and getting the dance moves down much better:

Week Three has Chuck going Latin on us.  He really lets the personality show through on this dance.

If nothing else, we should drop as many votes as we can on Chuck to win this thing.  It will help the cause of MMA, that’s for sure.  I like that his partner loves the standup game of MMA instead of the (as she put it) “just two guys hugging each other” game.  Liddell is really showing us just how brave he is by learning to dance.  Yeah IceMan!
